  The Soap Box

Fight Club Soap  Introduction:
When I first decided on the basic sections to include within this website, an soapbox section seemed to be an obvious choice, but after some thought I struggled to think of what this section might contain. I came to the decision that a rag tag collection of ideas and short quips might be best suited, so due to it's very nature this section is always under construction. If you have any interresting ideas you wish to place here send me an e-mail and I'll post your rant.

The evolution of economic power:

The success of all companies are fundamentally based around their ability to provide for a need or want sufficiently enough, that consumers are prepared to pay for what they offer. Many service-based companies provide services that are tied to the existence of a certain product/s. IT services for example are based around providing support for software or hardware products. In other words, these service companies rely on the existence of products as heavily as those companies which sell the relevant product.

Inevitably nearly all existing products will be replaced by new ones which perform better. If this type of product evolution is slowly incremental it would not be particularly difficult for these large companies which dominate the provision of products to retain their power indefinitely. This control is exercised by the sheer wealth of resources that they can dedicate to the purpose of suppressing possible competitors.

Fortunately change is not always slowly incremental, although it is always continuous. In the mathematical sense of a function's continuity this means that change will never stop or evolve direction in an angular sense. At certain critical moments in the evolution of knowledge new technologies are discovered which are so radically different to those used by previous products that a lot of the existing body of knowledge of how to further perfect the old products are rendered useless. Think of what the transistor and microchip did to typewriters and filing cabinets, giving rise to Microsoft or what the internal combustion engine did to horse drawn carriages and Henry Ford. It is at such critical times that the inability of the large, powerful companies to keep up with the rate at which new companies can begin to control production or services (related to this new technology) will cause their steady decline.

Why are the existing powerhouses not equipped to keep up with this kind of change? Well in affect a paradigm shift has occurred, but the most dramatic impact is felt by those establishments and individuals who where born and taught under the old paradigm, the seeds of economic power have now been planted beneath the feet of a new generation of companies. Old companies will not be able to evercome this by employing younger professionals because of the weight of all the defunct knowledge and skills within their structure. The new companies who are led by younger generations will grow more rapidly, becomimg powerful and inevitably fall to the cycle of occasional rapid change which gave rise to themselves.

Wave-Particle duality:

Light's diffraction and interference effects are clearly explained by a wave model. But it's discretely measurable affects point to it being a particle. How can it be both? Well it can be both by being neither. After all a wave or a particle are conceptual entitys with their own distinct properties making them identifiable from other conceptual entitys, like a book or a tree for instance. So the very notion that an entity such as light can fully be described by another entity's properties is ridiculous, otherwise one could not distinguish the two. So what is light? Well it is nothing other than itself, just like anything else it is merely itself, and with that acknowledgement it has the possibility of having any number of behavioral properties. Which can never be theoretically described in terms of another conceptual identity. This is why the more of any entitys behavior one tries to understand the more models one would need. Why do the models work then? Well simply because there is a chance correlation between some of the given behaviors and that of another entity. This is why it will never be possible to encompass all conceivable physical behavior within a single ideological framework.

To wish for something so sweet
but simultaneously being afraid of
wishing too hard because it might
amplify the fear of not getting
what one wanted leaves me confused
and saddened, what if it's presence could
have lifted a lifetime's burden? Even if
so, for just a few moments. This thought
swirls within me and stirs a sense of loss of
what never was, and I vaguely realize what
that beguiling thing people long for, might be...
